  • Conservation Club Middle School After School DMMS

    CLUB NAME - CONSERVATION CLUB ABOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL Middle School After School Clubs meet after school (when classes are in session). Most clubs meet one day per week. There are exceptions such as parent teacher conferences or days when after school programming is cancelled due to weather other unforeseen circumstances. When changes are made to the original schedule, the Mankato Community Education Office will communicate with parents via text or email, so please be certain that your payer account stays updated with accurate email and phone contact information. HOW MANY DAYS PER WEEK CAN I ATTEND MSAS? During the 2022-23 school year, Middle School After School will be open at Prairie Winds and Dakota Meadows Middle Schools from 3:25 - 5:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday afternoons. No programming on Wednesday or Friday. You should attend MSAS on the day(s) your club(s) are in session. You may also attend MSAS on the day(s) you are not enrolled in a club but want to stay after school to wait for a ride. We call this time (outside of your club time) "Student Union." During Student Union you can work on homework, use games activities provided by the program, and hang out with friends. Only authorized computer games (shooter games prohibited) and authorized, age appropriate content will be allowed on cell phones or devices during MSAS. WHO CAN ENROLL IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL? Middle School After School is open to students in grades 6-8, attendig Prairie Winds or Dakota Meadows Middle Schools. You must be registered for AT LEAST 1 club to use the Student Union on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. You must be registered BEFORE attending clubs. Registration is only done through the Community Education Office, not the middle school. Call the Mankato Community Education Office for registration assistance at 507-387-5501. WHERE TO REPORT Immediately after the final bell of the school day, students enrolled in Middle School After School should report to the cafeteria. You should report to MSAS with EVERYTHING you need for clubs or to take home. This includes jackets, chromebooks, homework, cell phones, band / orchestra instruments or any personal items. You WILL NOT be able to go to your locker after 3:30 pm when the academic wings are locked There will be a sign indicating the check in area and MSAS site supervisors will be ready to distribute a snack and take attendance. From 3:25 - 3:45 pm, students will be in the cafeteria having a snack, visiting with friends, and unwinding from the school day. Site Supervisors will have organized games or art supplies available for student use. Youth can also use this time to complete homework. This is also time when students can locate their teachers for questions or to make up work. Check in with MSAS Site Supervisors before locating your classroom teacher. TRANSPORTATION HOME Clubs begin at 3:45 pm and end at 5:00 pm. Transportation is not available. Parents / Guardians must arrange for pick up at 5:00 pm. All youth participating in the Middle School After School Student Union or Clubs should report to the cafeteria immediately after the final bell of the day for a snack and check in with staff. Site Supervisors will assure students are directed to the right location for their club or have proper supervision and age appropriate activity until picked up. SAFETY & CONDUCT We ask that any student enrolled in Middle School After School be prepared to follow school day rules for conduct as well as any COVID mitigation guidelines including but not limited to: staying home when you are ill and following CDC guidelines when you test positive for COVID.     Have you ever wanted a T-shirt with your very own design on it? Now’s your chance! Students will work to design their own custom T-shirt using digital graphic design tools. A professional screen printing company will turn the design into a real life T-shirt and ship it to your house! Experienced instructors will teach students how to run the software and guide them as they turn their visions into a reality! No prior experience needed! The address of the person enrolling students will be used to mail the finished T-shirt, be sure your address is up to date! This camp is presented by COR Robotics. The mission of COR Robotics is to inspire a passion for robotics in students, with the hope that the student will participate in their local FIRST programs, and further develop a passion for STEM fields/robotics.

    Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. Jr / Sr High (Musical) Play Residency & Performance Ages 11-16 Directed By Paul Christianson 2 week residency 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Daily) No program on Juneteenth (June 19) "Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. Jr / Sr High (Musical) Play Residency & Performance Youth cast in this show will participate in all aspects of play production from acting to set creation, costume and makeup design. This drama experience is more consistent with the experience a young actor would encounter in future high school or community plays. Rehearsals - Mankato West HS Auditorium (Stage) - 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (daily) Show Dates: Friday, June 21 & Saturday, June 22 at 7:00 pm. Tickets go on sale at the door, 1 hour before each performance.   • Drone Racing Camp

    Students will learn how to fly like the pros in the Drone Racing League by training on a flight simulator. After learning drone safety and maintenance, students will take a drone to the skies and compete in numerous races and challenges. Led by experienced instructors, students will leave camp with the skills and knowledge to pilot drones and keep them running. The drones used in camps have cameras, and are perfect for entry level pilots. No prior experience needed! This camp has two cost options: $110 - Instruction and a drone to use while in camp $170 - Instruction and you can bring home your drone to own after camp is complete This camp is presented by COR Robotics.     This program is designed specifically for girls to enhance the overall athleticism of those who participate. Focus will be placed on developing maximum speed and functional strength through sprint training, plyometric training, and strength training.     HOME ALONE SAFETY Melanie Schmidt (Instructor) Grades 2-6 & parent (or adult guardian) 1 Session Staying home alone for the first time is an opportunity eagerly anticipated by most kids; but with opportunity comes responsibility. This course covers a variety of common scenarios and topics specific to youth preparing to stay home alone or stay home with younger siblings. Topics include, but are not limited to: sibling conflict, stranger danger, healthy choices, problem solving, and identifying emergencies. Each child is encouraged to attend with 1 adult.
