BEGINNING ORCHESTRA PRAIRIE WINDS MIDDLE SCHOOL ALL INSTRUMENTS (VIOLIN, CELLO, BASS, VIOLA) 5:30-7:30 PM (MONDAY - FRIDAY) - ORCHESTRA ROOM GET A JUMP ON YOUR NEW INSTRUMENT MAPS Staff 5 sessions In five daily sessions learn how to get started on your orchestra instrument safely and correctly before school begins. Intended for students entering 6th grade or attending Orchestra for the first time at PWMS. Emphasis will be on the beginning elements of playing your instrument and learning how to care for it properly. Students need to arrive at camp with their instrument and Sound Innovations: Book 1, for each instrument. Parents are strongly encouraged to reserve this week for summer lessons if you plan on enrolling your student in Orchestra in Fall 2024. Lesson week is only for students enrolling in Orchestra at Prairie Winds Middle School. Attend lesson week at the school you are attending this Fall.

Grades 7-12 ISD 77 Students. Players must have their own gear. Hockey helmets, elbow pads, shoulder pads and gloves are allowable. No experience necessary.

CLUB NAME - CONSERVATION CLUB ABOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL Middle School After School Clubs meet after school (when classes are in session). Most clubs meet one day per week. There are exceptions such as parent teacher conferences or days when after school programming is cancelled due to weather other unforeseen circumstances. When changes are made to the original schedule, the Mankato Community Education Office will communicate with parents via text or email, so please be certain that your payer account stays updated with accurate email and phone contact information. HOW MANY DAYS PER WEEK CAN I ATTEND MSAS? During the 2022-23 school year, Middle School After School will be open at Prairie Winds and Dakota Meadows Middle Schools from 3:25 - 5:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday afternoons. No programming on Wednesday or Friday. You should attend MSAS on the day(s) your club(s) are in session. You may also attend MSAS on the day(s) you are not enrolled in a club but want to stay after school to wait for a ride. We call this time (outside of your club time) "Student Union." During Student Union you can work on homework, use games activities provided by the program, and hang out with friends. Only authorized computer games (shooter games prohibited) and authorized, age appropriate content will be allowed on cell phones or devices during MSAS. WHO CAN ENROLL IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL? Middle School After School is open to students in grades 6-8, attendig Prairie Winds or Dakota Meadows Middle Schools. You must be registered for AT LEAST 1 club to use the Student Union on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. You must be registered BEFORE attending clubs. Registration is only done through the Community Education Office, not the middle school. Call the Mankato Community Education Office for registration assistance at 507-387-5501. WHERE TO REPORT Immediately after the final bell of the school day, students enrolled in Middle School After School should report to the cafeteria. You should report to MSAS with EVERYTHING you need for clubs or to take home. This includes jackets, chromebooks, homework, cell phones, band / orchestra instruments or any personal items. You WILL NOT be able to go to your locker after 3:30 pm when the academic wings are locked There will be a sign indicating the check in area and MSAS site supervisors will be ready to distribute a snack and take attendance. From 3:25 - 3:45 pm, students will be in the cafeteria having a snack, visiting with friends, and unwinding from the school day. Site Supervisors will have organized games or art supplies available for student use. Youth can also use this time to complete homework. This is also time when students can locate their teachers for questions or to make up work. Check in with MSAS Site Supervisors before locating your classroom teacher. TRANSPORTATION HOME Clubs begin at 3:45 pm and end at 5:00 pm. Transportation is not available. Parents / Guardians must arrange for pick up at 5:00 pm. All youth participating in the Middle School After School Student Union or Clubs should report to the cafeteria immediately after the final bell of the day for a snack and check in with staff. Site Supervisors will assure students are directed to the right location for their club or have proper supervision and age appropriate activity until picked up. SAFETY & CONDUCT We ask that any student enrolled in Middle School After School be prepared to follow school day rules for conduct as well as any COVID mitigation guidelines including but not limited to: staying home when you are ill and following CDC guidelines when you test positive for COVID. Refunds will not be granted fewer than 4 days prior to the start date of the club and after the club has started. If space allows, you will be allowed to join a club after the start date, but the cost will not be pro-rated. Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. Jr / Sr High (Musical) Play Residency & Performance Ages 11-16 Directed By Paul Christianson 2 week residency 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Daily) No program on Juneteenth (June 19) "Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. Jr / Sr High (Musical) Play Residency & Performance Youth cast in this show will participate in all aspects of play production from acting to set creation, costume and makeup design. This drama experience is more consistent with the experience a young actor would encounter in future high school or community plays. Rehearsals - Mankato West HS Auditorium (Stage) - 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (daily) Show Dates: Friday, June 21 & Saturday, June 22 at 7:00 pm. Tickets go on sale at the door, 1 hour before each performance. This activity is made possible in part by a grant from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council with funds appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature from its general fund.

Mankato East and West 7-12th grade boys and girls who previously competed on their respective school teams or who are new to the district with prior competitive diving experience. Those with no prior diving experience may contact the coaches to discuss appropriateness.

Students will learn the basics of diving including approaches and different types of jumps/dives.

The Mankato West girls basketball program is putting on an exciting, new, summer basketball camp for Future Lady Scarlets who are entering grades K-5. Athletes will learn basketball fundamentals such as dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork and play fun games. Whether you have played basketball before or are just giving it a try, this will be a great camp for you! Come give basketball a try and learn from current Scarlet coaches and players!

This program is designed specifically for girls to enhance the overall athleticism of those who participate. Focus will be placed on developing maximum speed and functional strength through sprint training, plyometric training, and strength training. Participants will be able to track their own progress throughout the program.

HOME ALONE SAFETY Melanie Schmidt (Instructor) Grades 2-6 & parent (or adult guardian) 1 Session Staying home alone for the first time is an opportunity eagerly anticipated by most kids; but with opportunity comes responsibility. This course covers a variety of common scenarios and topics specific to youth preparing to stay home alone or stay home with younger siblings. Topics include, but are not limited to: sibling conflict, stranger danger, healthy choices, problem solving, and identifying emergencies. Each child is encouraged to attend with 1 adult.

Summer is coming and it may be time for your child to show increased independence by staying home alone. The new season brings both opportunity and challenge for families navigating sudden severe weather, neighborhood safety, screen time, and keeping your home safe and secure. Join Melanie Schmidt for a special edition of Home Alone Safety where we focus on summer fun and how kids can be safe while experiencing the outdoors, neighborhood friends, and even vacation adventures at the lake or cabin. Parents or guardians should attend class with their child for no additional cost.
